So check it, today LUV IT NYC has been in a get back to our roots type of day. We originally wanted to hit you with a ton of New Wave but it kind of led us all over the place in the same place, feel me? Anyhoo here is proto goth wierdo's Specimen with the vid for "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang". Back in the day they were definitely on the forefront of takin' shit to the far ends of the glamvampire. Which has since been ruined by hoodbats in their stacked shoes, colored contacts, and fat black raver pants. Anyway, again here is Specimen. LUVIT.

SPECIAL AFFECT-"TOO MUCH SOFT LIVING" & "OUT OF ORDER"

So check it, Special Affect is the band Al Jourgenson of Ministry was in before he started Ministry. Jourgenson handled guitar duties(he's the one in the red jumper) while Groovie Man, who later started My Life with the Thrill Kill Cult, handled vocals. The drummer Harry Rushakoff ended up in Concrete Blonde. They were pretty much the shit in Chicago(big ups to The Shy!) during that time. But what they did after ended up being way more important. Anyhoo, here are two live vids filmed in Chicago at Wizard's in 1980. Special Affect "Too Much Soft Living" and "Out of Order." LUVIT!

MINNY POPS-"DOLPHINS SPURT"

So check it, here is another rare one and the closest to New Wave as we got today(it was pretty much all new wave back in the day.) Minny Pops were a Factory Records band that kinda pushed new wave more in the direction of, i guess, a pre-industrial sound in the same vain as Cabaret Voltaire, they kinda had a Suicide concept( rythem wise)but way more robotic like Kraftwerk. So yeah basically if DNA's Arto Lindsey joined Suicide and they did Kraftwerk covers you would pretty much get a sound similar to early Minny Pops. Anyway here is the Minny Pop's vid for "Dolphins Spurt." LUVIT!

So check it, the first time I ever heard Kid Cudi was when he played a Fool's Gold party, with my homegirl Kid Sis, last year. He was mad boring, me and my people hated on him until Crookers remixed his track "Day n' Night" and then we all had to wash our words down with a shot of Jamey. Anyhoo, this shit became my theme jam for a sec and now there's a vid for it! So peep this Kid Cudi v.s Crookers "Day n' Night." LUVIT!

CRYSTAL STILTS-"PRISMATIC ROOM"

So Check it, i guess the word of the day is "Crystal", not the champagne nigga. Anyway my new favorite band in NYC(or maybe even anywhere) right now is Crystal Stilts. I had the pleasure of seeing them play last Sunday at The Bowery Ballroom(they played with this pretty cool darkwave band called Cold Cave) and i must say the show lived up to my expectations. In my opinion seeing/hearing Crystal Stilts is affirmation that John Peel is definitely in heaven. Moving on, I am glad to be able to share this vid of my favorite Crystal Stilts song "Prismatic Room"(which they didn't play at the show for some reason) with you. LUV IT!

The band is called Cut Off Your Hands, they are from New Zealand and are down with Les Savvy Fav, which is cool i guess, yeah no it's def cool. The band kinda reminds me of Orange Juice or Haircut 100 a bit. Anyhoo here is Cut Off Your Hands "Oh Girl" vid. LUVIT!

The Black Kids-"i'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dances"

So check it, this song is bittersweet for me because it sounds almost identical to a Thunderfang song called "ABC" I wrote a while ago in an attempt to rip off The Bar-Kays "Soul Finger". Anyhoo when i heard the Black Kids track "I'm not going to teach your boyfriend How to Dance," I was like "Damn, these nuggas beat me to the punch. So check it, Saturday night I was able to catch the newly reunited Anti-Pop Consortium at the Knitting Factory. And I must say they were pure fire. Some of the freak out interludes were a bit unnecessary but the joints were hot hot hot (peep "Volcano" on their mysapce page, now) Anyhoo here is an old vid of theirs for your viewing/listening pleasure. They're called MGMT (formerly The Management) and they're from Brooklyn. They have a tune called "Time To Pretend" which is my joint right now. Unfortunately I can't find the vid for that tune so here is their vid for "Kids" LUV IT!

Cruel Black Dove-"Love Song"

So check it, we have been away and neglecting the blog, which is becoming a theme as of late. But since "No Parking" is our motto around here, we will keep it moving with a vid from our pals Cruel Black Dove. CBD is a fairly new band in the NYC area but moving very quickly in a matter of months. When I first heard there song "Love Song" i was an instant fan. They are the kinda band that has heavy roots in late 80's early 90's new wave but with a strong mainstream appeal. Anyhoo I love this song and the vid is rad too. Cruel Black Dove-"Love Song." Echo and the Bunnymen-"The Cutter"

So Check it, the blog has been as splotchy as Britney Spears fake tan as of late. My WiFi has been NoFi. But we are marching on and makin' do by doin' what we can, when we can. LUV IT NYC has really been on some old school underground New Wave the last few months and we are stickin' with that.
